5 Rainy Day Activities That Are Actually Fun

Summer is one of the best times of the year for kids because they don't have to worry about school or homework. They also get to run around and play outside during most of the day, burning off lots of energy and staying active.

But the weather doesn't always stay great for outdoor fun. So what can you do with your family on a rainy day that's not just fun for your kids but also fun for you?

What activities are fun for both kids and adults?

When it comes to finding rainy day activities, you want to look for activities that are stimulating to the brain and body. Kids have excess energy they need to burn and their brains are still developing, which means they also love to learn.

Here are a few activities you can do with your kids that will stimulate their learning and need for fun while also being fun for you.

    1. Indoor sports games. The only reason why rainy day games feel less exciting than outdoor games is that many indoor activities involve keeping still. To make things more fun, consider playing indoor sports games like catch with a softer ball or indoor soccer in the garage. Just be sure to remove all things breakable from the room so you can breathe easy while still having fun.

    1. Tough puzzles. Puzzles aren't just for little kids or seniors. In fact, the neurotransmitter dopamine is produced when you do tough puzzles. This is the same neurotransmitter that's produced when you're physically exercising. If puzzles are too still for you and your kids, consider getting creative with it. For instance, every time someone finds a correct puzzle piece they get a chance to throw a balled-up piece of paper into a makeshift net or basket. If they make the throw, they get a piece of candy.

    1. Wood crafts. Kids like to get crafty and creative and what better way to do that than with a wood craft kit? You can build things like birdhouses, model airplanes, or monsters. You can also paint your wood crafts after you've finished, making two activities out of one. Just remember to have everyone wear art smocks or shirts that are okay for them to get messy.

Indoor activities can be just as fun and exciting as outdoor activities if you play your cards right. From indoor sports games to wood craft kits to tough puzzles there are many activities you can do with your kids that both of you can enjoy.
