The large flat-roofed building, to the right in mid-distance, is the Rose Garden, a $267 million multipurpose arena and home of the NBA Portland Trail Blazers. Located near the confluence of the Willamette (shown meandering through the center of the picture) and Columbia rivers, Portland's economy has historically been tied to these rivers and their access to the Pacific Ocean.
